Adrenaline, fear, and pure excitement are taking over as I currently am waiting to board my 17 hour flight to begin my adventure of a lifetime. The past few weeks have been bittersweet, insightful, and full of emotion. Preparing for my life in Australia has taught me so many things, and I haven’t even left yet! It hasn’t been easy, but I know it’ll be so worth it.
Living with ambiguity has been the biggest lesson I’ve overcome so far. I am and have always been a planner. Everyday I carry around a color-coded agenda, with a big calendar at home, usually with plans all the way through to the next year. To study abroad means to not know anything. Well maybe not anything, but there is a huge gray area. Finally after months of struggling with this mindset, I came to the realization this worrying was not worth my time, which I needed to dedicate to my family and friends and dog.
Saying goodbye to those I love and all things comfortable is the hardest thing I have ever done, but I know they are with me and support me completely. While there is nothing easy about that, there is ease in taking these steps towards self-discovery knowing the love and support I am filled by.
I cannot wait to begin this adventure and keep you all updated on the Aussie slang and cool animals. See you soon!
